Subject: KStep Enable
Attachments :
Tom,

I have removed jumpers JP34 and JP35 to run the KStep in isolation. My plan is to use the Enable function on J6 going to my E-Stop.

1. My questions is if the Enable can take a 24V+ signal? I am planning on using one of the outputs on the Konnect to programmatically enable, and then run that in series through the E-Stop safety switch. This way either the EStop or a program can disable the KStep drivers.

2. If a 24V+ is not good on the KStep, would one of the Konnect outputs function with a 5V+ supply rather than 24V?

3. Seems like I may have fried my spindle driver. I had it hooked up to the KStep as an external POT on JP33. The trouble happened when I hooked up 5V+ to the Enable on the KSTEP. The Spindle motor started squealing and will no longer function. Is there any connection between the Enable pin and the PWM to analog circuit? Maybe I had my pins wrong? Are these the correct pin numbers? Can you think of anything else that would cause this?

Thanks,

Scott

Hi Scott,

Sorry to hear that.

The KStep Enable input is a 3.3V input that is connected to a KFLOP 3.3V I/O (Bit45) through the ribbon connection going to KFLOP JP7.  Do not apply 24V or 5V to this pin or you may damage KFLOP or KStep.

With a proper series resistor it would be possible to drive from 24V or 5V.

Those look to be the correct pins.  There is no electrical connection from the Enable to any of the Analog Output.  The Analog Output is fully optically isolated.  Unless you wired a common power supply.  The only thing I can think of is that applying +5V to Enable killed KFLOP leaving the PWM fully on 100%.

TK

Tom,

I was planning on doing something similar. Basically cutting the ribbon cable connecting the KStep and the Kflop and running it through the contact on my safety relay. E-Stop would disable the KStep, and I can also power it on and off with a C program. See the attached image.

Seem reasonable?

Thanks,
